Home Improvements

Making improvements around your home or just fixing the sink can be very difficult without the right place to go and get the supplies required for the job.

Luckly for us here in Costa Rica we finally have a mega hardware store called "EPA". There you can find all sorts of stuff for your home like paint, plubming, doors, cabnets, etc. EPA follows a similiar role that Home Depot does. There are currently two in Costa Rica both in San Jose, one located in Curridabat and the other in Escazu. The service and selection at EPA makes it a one stop shop.

EPA is not the only place you can buy materials though. If you are prepared to do a little running around you can usually get what you are looking for at a couple of different specialty shops. For example you can get paint at one of the many stores dedicated to Paint, Hoses for your car or plumming can be found at "Casa de la Mangera", Screws / Nuts or Bolts you can find at "Torneca" the list goes on.

Anyone who knows of a local shop that is dedicated to something specific for home improvement and would like to contirbute it here please post in the comments.

I am coming to CR in May and need to buy several items at the new EPA store in Escazu. Could someone please tell me how to get there? I'll be renting a car at Juan Santa Maria aiport. Thanks so much.

Take the main No. 1 Auto Pista Road towards San Jose. When you reach San Jose Park on your right, take the right (outside) lane around park and right onto No. 27 Road toward Escazu. There are major road works on this road and it will narrow, keep on the right (outside) lane. EPA is on the right and there is a sign directing you off the 27, slip road right. Good luck.
